PHFA Website

In addition to helping renters, PHFA is a state-affiliated agency that can help you decide if homeownership is right for you.

On our website Opens new browser window, click "Homeownership" in the blue bar and choose either "Homebuyers" or "Counseling & Education." Both have background information about the programs and services we offer.

Under "Counseling & Education," you can find a local counseling agency where an expert can help you decide if you're ready to become a homebuyer. Many services are available at no charge to you.

Financial Education and Coaching

Homeownership is a life-long commitment that requires time, energy, and the ability to manage your finances successfully.

To teach these financial skills to current and potential homeowners, PHFA developed the Financial Education Program, a series of 4 workshops that include the following topics:

  • Understanding your personal assets and developing financial goals.
  • Learning about different sources of income and how employer-paid benefits help you maintain your financial health.
  • Making sound financial decisions, understanding income taxes, and managing risk through insurance, identity theft protection, and Consumer Protection resources.
  • Saving, investing, and using credit to build your assets.

The Financial Education Program is provided at no cost by PHFA's participating counseling agencies.

After you've completed your Financial Education sessions, you're eligible to meet with a counselor one-on-one to get help with your personal finances. These private coaching sessions can be either face-to-face or on the phone, and are also free of charge.
